SB: I feel like every single survivor on that plane is indebted to those who were in the cockpit. But he remembers a lot of what happened. October 1, 1999. Like, physically shut. "There's one particular pile of aluminum at least, that's what it looks like, an unruly stack of crumpled aluminum," I said. "Varying their thrust gave the pilots some crude control over the aircraft's elevation," reporter Bill Zahren wrote in the Sioux City Journal three days later. I was too big. You deal with it. But its there. Then a fourth grader living in Chicago, Brownstein was traveling alone on Flight 232. Before coming to Sioux City, Brownstein contacted Rabbi Katzman, who had remained a family friend for the past three decades. Only 13 passengers walked away without injury. In a way, you had to develop an empathic way of dealing with it, even to understand it for yourself. I actually had to put the book down. I dont need to talk about politics, but thats trauma.
